FAQ

Common Questions, Honest Answers

We know navigating behavioral and educational services can feel overwhelming. These are the questions families ask us most often.

Getting Started

  • ABA therapy is most commonly recommended for individuals with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), though it can benefit anyone with developmental differences or behavioral challenges. The best first step is a free consultation with one of our BCBAs, who can review your situation and recommend an appropriate assessment.

  • Our free consultation is a 30–45 minute conversation with a member of our clinical team. We'll listen to your goals and concerns, answer your questions about our services, and discuss whether we're the right fit. There's no obligation to proceed, and no sales pressure — just an honest conversation.

  • After your consultation, if you decide to move forward, we typically complete an initial assessment within 2–3 weeks. From there, your individualized treatment plan is developed and services begin. The full onboarding process usually takes 3–5 weeks from first contact to first session.

  • Yes. We provide services across the lifespan — from early intervention for toddlers to life skills and community support for adults. Our social skills groups, life skills programs, and community support services are specifically designed for teens and adults.

  • We serve all 50 states. All of our services are delivered online via secure, HIPAA-compliant video platforms, so there are no geographic restrictions. Whether you're in a major city or a rural area, we can help.

ABA Therapy

  • Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientific approach to understanding and changing behavior. It uses evidence-based techniques to teach new skills, reduce challenging behaviors, and improve quality of life. ABA programs are individualized — there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Our BCBAs design each program based on a thorough assessment of the individual's strengths, needs, and goals.

  • All ABA programs at Kaleidoscope Kollege are supervised by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs). BCBAs hold master's or doctoral degrees in behavior analysis or a related field and have passed a rigorous national certification exam. Our BCBAs conduct assessments, design treatment plans, supervise sessions, and review data regularly.

  • The recommended number of hours varies widely based on the individual's age, diagnosis, and goals. Research suggests that intensive early intervention (20–40 hours per week) produces the strongest outcomes for young children with ASD. However, many individuals benefit from less intensive programs. Our BCBAs will recommend an appropriate intensity level based on your child's assessment.

  • Progress is measured through systematic data collection at every session. Our BCBAs track skill acquisition, behavior frequency, and goal attainment over time. You'll receive regular progress reports and have access to your child's data. We review goals and adjust the program at least quarterly — or more frequently if needed.

  • Yes. Telehealth ABA has been validated by research and is recognized by major insurance carriers. Our BCBAs conduct sessions via secure video platforms and work closely with families to implement strategies in the natural environment. Parent and caregiver involvement is especially important in telehealth ABA, and we provide thorough training to support you.

Coverage & Cost4 questions

Insurance & Payment

  • We work with many major insurance carriers and can assist with insurance verification and authorization. Coverage for ABA therapy varies by plan and state. Contact us with your insurance information and we'll verify your benefits before you commit to anything.

  • If your insurance doesn't cover ABA therapy, we offer private-pay options and can discuss sliding-scale fees based on financial need. We also help families navigate other funding sources, including Medicaid waivers, regional center funding (in applicable states), and school district funding.

  • Educational tutoring and social skills groups are typically not covered by health insurance. However, some families use HSA/FSA funds for these services. In some cases, school districts may fund social skills groups as part of an IEP. We're happy to provide documentation to support funding requests.

  • Costs vary by service type and intensity. We provide transparent pricing during your consultation and will never surprise you with hidden fees. For insurance-covered services, your cost will depend on your plan's copay, deductible, and out-of-pocket maximum.

Telehealth4 questions

Online & Telehealth

  • You need a device with a camera and microphone (laptop, tablet, or smartphone), a stable internet connection, and a quiet space for sessions. We use HIPAA-compliant video platforms — no special software downloads are required. We'll walk you through the setup before your first session.

  • Research supports the effectiveness of telehealth ABA for many individuals, particularly when families are actively involved. Telehealth allows us to observe and coach in the natural environment — your home — which can actually improve generalization of skills. It's not the right fit for every situation, and our BCBAs will be honest with you if in-person services would better meet your needs.

  • This is a common concern, and our BCBAs are trained to address it. We use a variety of engagement strategies, keep sessions appropriately paced, and work with parents to set up the environment for success. For very young children or those with significant attention challenges, we may recommend shorter, more frequent sessions.

  • Sessions are not routinely recorded. If recording is clinically indicated (for example, to review a specific behavior), we will always obtain written consent from the parent or guardian first. Your privacy and your child's privacy are paramount.

Family Involvement3 questions

Families & Caregivers

  • Family involvement is central to everything we do. Research consistently shows that children make faster progress when parents and caregivers are active participants in the therapy process. We provide parent training as part of every ABA program, and we design strategies that families can implement throughout the day — not just during sessions.

  • Parent training involves teaching caregivers the same strategies our clinicians use in sessions, so skills can be practiced and reinforced throughout the day. It is included in all ABA programs and is strongly encouraged for all other services. Parent training sessions are typically 1–2 hours per week and are conducted via video.

  • Absolutely. We encourage all primary caregivers — parents, grandparents, foster parents, teachers, or anyone who plays a significant role in the individual's life — to participate in training. Consistent implementation across environments is one of the strongest predictors of positive outcomes.
